Light Sussex Chicks — UNSEXED — 1–5 Days Old
Light Sussex are one of Australia’s most loved heritage chicken breeds, valued for their friendly nature, striking appearance, and excellent all-round performance. With their crisp white plumage, black neck hackles, and black tail feathers, they look like they truly belong in a cottage garden. Known for their calm and inquisitive personalities, Light Sussex are easy to handle and fit well into family backyards, mixed flocks, and small farms. They are reliable layers of large, tinted eggs and are well suited to Australian conditions.
Important care note: These chicks still require supplemental heat. Provide a heat source (brooder lamp or plate) set to about 35°C at chick level during the first week, then reduce by about 2–3°C each week until fully feathered (typically 5–6 weeks). Ensure a safe, draft-free brooder with clean bedding, fresh water, chick starter feed, and room to move away from the heat if they get too warm.
